The Utah Boys Select Side returns to the scene of success as they come back to the Rocky Mountain Classic, a tournament they won last season.

After a series of selection assemblies through the spring, the team was selected after a four-squad trial weekend - two teams from Northern Utah played each other and two teams from Southern Utah did the same. The best of those two teams participated in a North v South trial match that created a pool of 30, whittled down to 25 in training.

Utah will take a Varsity and Junior Varsity to Colorado, with several returning players. As often happens, the program has been struck by LDS (Mormon) mission. Some senior players are already on their mission. Still others will embark soon, and have opted for time with family before they leave home for two years, rather than one more rugby trip. Those who aren’t with the team include Darian Power and Sam Slivers, two nifty halfbacks who might be missed - especially when it comes to goalkicking. 

But the team does have returning players, including HS All American prop/No. 8 Kalisi Moli and HSAA prospect Sione Bloomfield. Colton Swapp, who has plenty of select-side experience, Snow Canyon’s Kody Jacobsen, and Herriman’s imposing Kyler Burch.

University of Utah Coach Haloti Liava’a will coach the team, and they are expected to contend once more. But the Rocky Mountain Challenge is just that, a massive challenge.

Along with Utah, the Rocky Mountain Challenge Boys Varsity bracket includes: Louisiana, Minnesota, Idaho, Texas, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma, Heart of America, and Nebraska.
