Short Looks to This Weekend, and Ahead to Fall
Eagle Impact Rugby Academy player Nate Short is one of several players on the team looking ahead to a new chapter in college rugby.
The Dixon HS halfback will join a song Arizona State University recruiting class this fall
“I’m excited, and really confident about it,” said Short. “I am excited about the 7s team we can put on the field. I want to do anything and everything I can to help them. There are some really good California guys going into the class of 2019.”
Short said ASU was the first school he toured and he just loved it.
“I aways followed Arizona State Rugby,” he said. “I know they have a really good 7s program. I love hot weather. [HS All American and EIRA Coach] Salty Thompson’s out there so I’ve got connections out there. And their Biological Sciences and Kinesiology programs are some of the best in the country. Everything came into place for me.”
Like a lot of players, Short is looking for the right combination of rugby and education. With that sorted, now he is looking at right now, which is about helping the EIRA team win at the Victoria 7s.
“It’s good, we’re just working out on the kinks and get relaxed- everybody’s expecting a lot,” Short said. “We’re definitely hard on ourselves when we make a mistake. We look out for each other and help each other, but we don’t want to make a mistake.”
Short said he likes the EIRA team because of how versatile the team is.
“Everybody can play any position,” he said. “We’ve got guys playing out of position and doing really well.”
