North Carolina Latest - Chapel Hill, South Meck, Myers Park
The Chapel Hill Highlanders thumped North Raleigh 53-12 in North Carolina league action Friday night.
Hooker Emmanuel Seyon, who scored three tries last week, scored four this week, while No. 8 Benjamin Austin scored two, and flanker Jacob Etringer and prop Justin Holdstock scored one each. Flyhalf Aidan Gallagher added 13 points with five conversions and a penalty goal. The Highlanders are now 2-0 in North Carolina HS Club league play.
Also in North Carolina, in the single-school division, Ardrey Kell won a barnburner 48-40 over Rocky River, and Myers Park continued their good run of form with a tough 26-11 victory over the Hough Huskies and move to 2-0. The South Meck Sabres, a team GRR outlined as a team to watch (also moved to 2-0 with a 45-5 defeat of Berry Academy.
It was another impressive performance for South Meck HS. South Meck scored tries from all over the field, and the Sabres' defense was very good against a speedy and elusive Berry team.
Brandon Sanders scored two tries for South Meck, while Derwin Lewis, Keyon Barnes, Sharome Henry, Connor Hayes, and Jamel McClendon scored one, and Taran Heise notched five conversions in a fairly complete team effort.
