IUPUI, Xavier On Collision Course
Xavier of Cincinnati and IUPUI are standing at 6-0 in the Midwest DII/NSCRO league, and it looks like the two teams are on a collision course this weekend in the conference final four.
Xavier is 6-0 with an average of 52 points scored per game and 9 points allowed. IUPUI is at 61/10, so essentially the same all the way down the line. Saturday, IUPUI takes on Thomas Moore and Xavier faces Southern Indiana. The winners will face off SUnday.
"It's going to take all 15 to 23 players," said IUPUI Coach Joe Richards.
But it will take the leadership of the likes of Logan Williams, Will Richards, Cody Mader, and Levi Hawk.
"Usually, the fast they make an impact the faster our special athletes like John Rizzo and Luke Williams get hot and make plays," said Richards. "But it all starts with leadership for us.
Xavier has been led by No. 8 Cam Breen, who, along with backs captain, Jose Sanchez, has carried much of the load.
"Since we haven’t faced IUPUI thus season, I don’t know what to expect," said Xavier Coach Shawn Gaffney. "We’ll have to hustle more to the breakdown and make our tackles. If we execute our game plan and use our rush defense, we’ll make a game of it! They’re a very good squad."
