Danville Defeats Pen Green
In a clash of two of the top HS teams in the nation, the Danville Oaks defeated Peninsula Green 57-35 Saturday.
The Oaks started quickly and kept up the pace throughout. They led 33-14 at halftime. Peninsula Green had some good attacking movements, but eventually the Danville defense was able to turn them over. Tyler Nunnery was outstanding in this respect, and repeatedly stole Pen Green ball, and was also a tough runner.
Meanwhile, Danville’s continuity wore Pen Green down.
“Once we got through three or four phases, it was pretty hard to defense against us,” said Danville Coach Jon Straka.
Peninsula Green scored three tries late to close the gap. Straka said some of the tries his team gave up were due to poor decisions on their own half, but, he added, “Pen Green made us work for it.”
