Boys Rankings Top 10 Preview
We don't normally do this, but we're getting close to NIT seeding time and all of that, so we are producing a sneak preview of the Boys HS Rankings.
It takes us a long time to get all of the results from the 150 or so teams we're trying to track and we didn't want to wait for those wondering about the very top.
So here's what we have in terms of results among top-ten teams:
Single School #1 Gonzaga - Comfortable win over Salesianum.
Multi-School #1 Danville beat MS#3 Granite Bay 34-31 to win the NorCal championship.
SS#2 Penn lost 12-3 to Multi-School #2 Royal Irish in Indiana league play.
SS#3 Jesuit of Sacramento was idle.
MS#4 Red Mountain was idle.
SS#4 Fallbrook lost in overtime to MS#7 Back Bay.
SS#5 Xavier beat SS#7 Greenwich 37-36 in New York.
MS#5 Kansas City Junior Blues won comfortably over well-regarded Minnesota team Edina.
SS#6 Herriman won comfortable over Brighton.
MS#6 Liberty beat nemesis Budd Bay 20-17 in Washington league play.
SS#8 Westlake won their Texas Rugby semifinal over Kingwood.
MS#8 Weston lost their Florida state final to MS#13 Orlando 21-18.
SS#9 Kahuku was idle.
MS#9 West Valley lost to Lowland and beat Alta.
SS#10 Snow Canyon beat MS#10 United 13-10 at Snow Canyon.
So you see our rankings have held up quite well. But there has been some movement.
Here is how our Single-School Top 10 will look:

Beat Xavier and Royal Irish, Jesuit was idle so couldn't do anything to catch them, so their main rivals for #1 was Penn, and Penn lost. |

Penn |
Despite losing, they stay at #2 because they didn't lose by much, the conditions were horrible (a small factor), and they lost to the #2 HS Club. |

Stands pat. |

Xavier |
Impressive win over #7 team. Could argue that Herriman stays here. But it's tough to tell when most of their opponents are out-matched. Fallbrook drops out after loss. |

Greenwich |
Have to move them right behind Xavier in a virtual tie. |

Herriman |
They drop down from 5th mostly because Xavier and Greenwich can't really be separated. |

Fallbrook |
Overtime loss to a good team doesn't crush your ranking, and they still have an excellent body of work, but they have to move down as other teams keep winning. |

Westlake |
Won their Texas playoff game. Still winning. Wish they'd play more outside the state. |

Kahuku |
Idle. |

10 |
Snow Canyon |
Beat the #10 club team by three points. Kind of shows we had that about right. |
Here's how our HS Club Top 10 will look:

Danville |
This season they have beaten Peninsula Green, Hayward, Oakland, Lamorinda, North Bay, Pleasanton, Snow Canyon, Santa Monica, and Torrey Pines and really only Granite Bay was close. Average score 48-15. That's why they are #1. |

Royal Irish |
Beat the SS#2. Yes it was a muddy mess, but they did the job despite hardly having played. They might be the #1 team in the country, but haven't played enough to prove it. |

Granite Bay |
Proved they belong here by beating Jesuit earlier in the spring and then almost beating Danville. Part of an extremely strong top 3. |

Red Mountain |
Idle. Did enough with games played out of the area. |

5 |
Back Bay |
Beat SS#4, and that prompted us to look at their results again. They've beaten everyone they've played (with two exceptions), including teams that won their conference elsewhere in SoCal. Healthy and with full compliment, they beat Fallbrook. Have to move them up for that. |

KC Jr. Blues |
Been playing well, but competition not strong enough. |

Orlando |
Beat #8 team and we decided to move Orlando up rather than Weston down. |

Weston |
Lost their state final, by three points. We decided to move Orlando up rather than Weston down. |

9 |
West Shore |
Performance at Jesuit Classic, plus they keep winning in Pa. This one is a bit of a hunch. |

10 |
United |
Lost to the #10 single-school team by three points. Kind of shows we had that about right. |
We are dropping Liberty out of the Top 10 just because we're not sold on Washington being all that strong this year, and they keep faltering against a Budd Bay team that, while it matches up well against them, is not better than a #45 team at the moment.
