Blaze Fiery in Girls AHS7s
The New Jersey Blaze girls team is at the American High School 7s Championships and are favored to be in the top.
It's a small girls bracket, just the Blaze, Union, Doylestown, and North Bay, but it's a competitive group. the Blaze, made up of players from the Morris club, have a ton of experience in 7s and have won the last three years.
Delia Hellander is among the leading players on the Blaze. A fast, aggressive runner, she cotninues to improve and recently returned from a week-long camp at the Olympic Training Center.
Allie Mennella, a rising Junior, didn't play last weekend and her return, with her speed, kicking accumen, and passing, will be a huge addition.
Jess Nagie is, said Coach Tom Feury, the best scrumhalf in the Northeast. "She wreaks havoc on the opposing #4," he said. "She is a great tackler, and is quick to scamper through the box if given the room."
And sisters Tammy and Jordan Cowan are two excellent support runners. They are the ones who finish it off when their teammates make the break.
Kelsey Svasaand and Kelsey Joyce both grew up playing flag rugby in the Morris program, and that experience taught them to identify and exploit space.
They are often the ones passing off to the Cowan sisters to set up the try.
