Ivy League Kicks Off
Columbia and Yale emerged victorious in the opening games of the Men's Ivy League season this weekend.
Wet weather made for low-scoring matches, but perhaps added to the drama.
Columbia took an early 10-0 lead over Brown thanks to a penalty kick from Peter Calello and a try from Ben Keitt, which he scored after Columbia was awarded a free kick off a scrum. Calello converted.
Brown replied with a try but a Calello penalty made it 13-7 at halftime. Brown's second try made it a one-point match 13-12, but with time waning Keitt zipped over from short range to put the game away 18-12.
It was just as close for Yale, as they relied on the trusty boot of fullback Joe Murdy. He put Yale up 3-0 with a penalty, and after Penn scored a try to make it 5-3, he just kept the scoreboard ticking over, hitting three more penalties, two from long range, to make it 12-5 as a final score.
Yale and Columbia are both 1-0 in the league, while Brown and Penn earn bonus points for a close loss.
